The Fazenda Murycana is located at the bottom of the Serra da Bocaina, in Paraty. There, a cachaça (typical Brazilian spirit) distillery is found. In the past, it was a flour mill and a coffee plantation, commerce outpost of coffee, gold, sugar, cachaça and slaves. Pieces in exhibit at the farm confirm its past commercial activities.

In the XVII century. it was known as "Três Fazendas" (three farms) because it was distributed in three levels: superior level, where the Landlord lived; intermediary level, where the servants (slaves) lived; and in the lower level there was the outpost.

The Paraty Port exported products from São Paulo and Minas Gerais and received merchandise from many countries, that were distributed to the provinces, having the "Fazenda Murycana" as an obligatory stop.

The Old Murycana distillery, moved by a water wheel, produced cachaça distilled under log fire, aged in oak or cherry wood barrels, and also liquors, melados (thick broth made of molasses served as dessert) and aphrodisiac cachaças.

The place, where the alembic is situated today, was the slave house where slaves where gathered to sleep in a kind of calaboose covered with hay.

They went down by using a movable ladder that was removed after they were all in to prevent escape attempts and replaced the following morning.
